Now that I have finished my freshman year, I have been think about the mistakes I have made and the little tips that would have saved me a lot of time and energy. So here are my 30 things I wish I knew as a freshman with a some help from the Little Mermaid:

  1. Your A1 Day 1s might not last the entire year. And it is ok!
  2. Having fun isn’t about what you’re doing it’s about who you’re with
  3. Finding someone who will give you a hug when you need it is vital!
  4. It’s ok to be homesick and call your mom everyday
  5. Do not let one person determine what you do or how you feel
  6. Realize that people are not what they seem at first
  7. Getting half a grade off because you don’t come to class is the stupidest way to get a bad grade.
  8. Being driven and being put together are not the same thing. You can be a hard working  hot mess.tenor (1)
  9. Arguments will happen with the people that you live with, it’s resolving the problem that’s important. Not the problem itself.
  10. When making roommate agreements, DO NOT BE VAGUEdownload
  11. Your friends can drift apart and it doesn’t mean that you all hate each other, you’re just different now.
  12. Find people to go to the gym with. Or you won’t go
  13. It’s not high school. No one cares who your clique is or how old you are
  14. Coffee helps, location is good but getting sleep is what matters when it comes to studying
  15. Exams differ each semester. Fall can be easy and spring can suck
  16. Going to your professors ACTUALLY gets you a better grade
  17. Schools have a million resources for their students. Find them. Use them.
  18. Desperation and thirstiness are something people can sense.
  19. Seek out friendships with older kids. It’ll improve your quality of life.
  20. People will disappoint you. Know that it will happen and don’t let it get you down.
  21. Seek out friendships with more people than just those who live on your hall or in your building
  22. If you want to loft your bed, make sure you’re 110% sure you’re willing to climb up to it everyday
  23. Know that the dining halls aren’t exactly ~fine dining~ and serve a lot of greasy, unhealthy foods. Eat salads and vegetables to keep you healthy!
  24. Have fun! While academics are very important, it’s also important that you don’t overwork yourself and give yourself breaks every now and then
  25. Do not worry about getting enough tshirts… by the end of the year you will have too many.
  26. Walk around campus to familiarize yourself with the locations of your classes before the start of each semester
  27. Befriend the people who work in the dining halls and restaurants around campus. They care about you and are generally the nicest people on campus.
  28. Get in the habit of cleaning your room and doing your laundry once a week as soon as you get to college
  29. You don’t have to be besties with your roommate. As long as you can coexist you will have an A+ time
  30. It’s ok to be antisocial every once and awhile and take some me time, but don’t lock yourself up in your room or shut everyone out/hold on to high school
